2010 LHA Event Schedule

June 19, 20     Brandon Civil War Days

2nd Battery Vermont Light Artillery is hosting a two-day living history encampment on the grounds of the Brandon Inn. The event will include a full encampment of soldiers and civilians of the Civil War era, with weapons firing and tactical demonstrations, historical displays, music, lectures, fashion show, and sales booths. Brandon is where the original 2nd Battery was mustered for organization, with many of the new recruits staying at the Inn on December 10, 1861. July 10, 11     Revolutionary War Battle of Hubbardton Commemoration

Hubbardton Battlefield State Park, Hubbardton, Vermont Sponsored by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, The Hubbardton Historical Society, and the LHA. Full amenities, 4-8 sutlers, food stand, visitor center, interpretive walks, full 18th century camps, ample parking, both infantry and artillery demonstrations, scripted and unscripted battles.

 

July 24, 25     Revolutionary War Soldiers on the Mount Commemoration

Mount Independence State Historic Site, Orwell, Vermont. Sponsored by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, The Friends of Mount Independence, and the LHA. Original encampment site for 13,000 American forces from late 1775-June 1777 and about 600 Crown Forces June 1777-Nov. 1777. Full amenities, 4-5 sutlers, food stand, visitor center, interpretive walks, full 18th century camps, ample parking, both infantry and artillery demonstrations, great event site for engineers, scripted and unscripted battles.

 

August 7, 8     Revolutionary War Living History Demonstration Weekend 
                            at the General Henry Knox Mansion

Thomaston, ME. Sponsored by the Friends of the Mansion and the LHA. For applications contact Living History Association, Department of Revolutionary War Interpretation, Gen. Both artillery and Infantry demonstrations.

 

August 14, 15     Wilmington, Vermont Old Home Week Celebration –
                             August 14th 11:00 am Parade & Americana Days 
                             World War II Interpretive Event.

Units are invited to camp at the headquarters of the Living History Association on Friday evening August 13th – Matterhorn Inn, 248 Route 100, West Dover, Vermont to proceed the next morning to the parade site in nearby Wilmington. Units marching in the one mile level ground parade will receive a stipend of $12.00 per head per adult and $6.00 per head per child in authentic reproduction or original period attire. August 14-15 there will be a WWII encampment, displays and skirmishes at the grounds of the Matterhorn Inn sponsored by the Living History Association, Celebrate the Valley and 26th Yankee Division – George Devlin Commanding.                             Commemorative Event

August 21, 22     Americana Days, Roman Army Living History
                             Encampment & Display

August 21     Americana Days, Mountain Dulcimer and Folk Music Concert

Memorial Hall, Route 9, Wilmington, Vermont. Event is open to the public with tickets available at the door. Performers are from far and wide within the continental United States. August 28, 29     Americana Days – Civil War Event

Matterhorn Inn, 248 Route 100, West Dover, Vermont. Full encampment and battle planned at the headquarters and under the sponsorship of the Living History Association, assisted by the Celebrate the Valley Committee, the 2nd Battery Vermont Light Artillery, and the 123rd New York & 14th Vermont Infantry. Saturday evening meal provided, normal camping and campfires on the grounds, and all normal amenities provided. $7.00 pre-registration fee per head $20.00 per sutler. October 2, 3     24th Annual International Time Line Event

All time periods welcome at the Matterhorn Inn, 248 Route 100, West Dover, Vermont. Full encampment and living history display and demonstration event at the headquarters and under the sponsorship of the Living History Association, assisted by the Celebrate the Valley Committee, and Town of Dover Economic Development Funds. Saturday evening meal provided, normal camping and campfires on the grounds, and all normal amenities provided. $20.00 sutler registration fee – no other registration fees required. The Dover Bicentennial Parade will be held on Saturday Oct, 2nd at 11:00 am and participating units will be given a stipend of $12.00 per head, per adult and $6.00 per head per child in authentic reproduction or original period attire. October 9-10     Ethan Allen Days—Bennington, VT

This weekend is in the height of foliage season in Southern Vermont and promises a weekend of beautiful foliage and large crowds.  A full 18th century encampment at Colgate Park in Bennington, Vermont, will commemorate the exploits of Ethan Allen, the Green Mountain Boys and the times in which they lived.  There will be full military camps, craft demonstrations, musket and cannon fire with Saturday and Sunday tactical demonstrations, and a period church service Sunday morning.  Camps will be open on Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Located at Colgate Park on Route 9 West in Bennington, Vermont. October 30     LHA General Membership Meeting

This is where the membership of the LHA meets to make policy and nominate candidates for election to the Board of Directors. Many departments, committees, and units hold their yearly meetings at this time. Meeting Location – The Matterhorn Inn, Route 100, West Dover, Vermont.
